Project Info
- Title
- Newtown Reservoir Cleaning Project
- Description
- The project involves the removal of sediments and vegetation from the reservoir to restore it to its original design capacity. The reservoir has a total design storage capacity of approximately 8.22 acre-feet and has a surface area of approximately 1.6 acres. The purpose of the project is to remove accumulated sediments and regain lost storage capacity; the project would not add any additional capacity. An estimated 6,600 subic yards of sediment would be removed over a periof of two to three months beginning in 2018, and the work may also extend into 2019. The removal of the sediment would be accomplished by diverting canal flows around the reservoir. The accumulated seidment in the reservoir would then be excavated using excavators, dump trucks, drag lines, and other suitable equipment. The excavated sediment would be placed on adjacent disturbed land in order to drain the sediment of remaining water and to allow for drying or would be transported off site to be recycled as fill material, as appropriate.
