Document Description
The project will improve ingress and egress safety, reduce wildfire risk, and aid in suppression activities through reducing hazardous vegetation and conducting minor road improvements along 84.4 miles of strategic access routes to reduce the likelihood that life or property will be lost in the case of wildfire. Treatments will vary based on conditions present and location and specific objectives but will generally include removing excess vegetation, including brush and trees up to 8-inch diameter, to increase horizontal spacing and eliminate vertical continuity of fuels, and pruning retained trees to provide a vertical clearance up to 15 feet. Roadside fuels reduction will occur up to 100 feet from either side of the road. Woody materials will be chipped, pile burned, or otherwise disposed of in a manner that does not create fire hazards. Minor road improvements may include road grading, installation or removal of water bars or rolling dips, installation of emergency route signs, and placement of gravel. Any use of ground disturbing equipment or activities will be confined to the existing road prism and other areas subject to previous disturbance.
