Document Description
The proposed project consists of the installation of a monitoring well in the City of Capitola. The purpose of this work is to: a) expand the existing groundwater basing monitoring network of the City of Santa Cruz Water Department that has been established for basin management and protection; and b) generate hydrogeological information to be used in sitting new City production wells. The proposed located is a paved area at 4400 Auto Plaza Drive in Capitola.

Reasons for Exemption
The proposed project is exempt under Section 15306 (Class 6), Information Collection. The monitoring well will be used to obtain groundwater data for assessment of groundwater conditions and to assist with identifying potential new well locations for the city of Santa Cruz Water Department. None of the exceptions to the exemptions under 15300.2 of the CEQA Guidelines apply to the proposed project. The installation of the monitoring well will be sited in a disturbed area, and the physical installation will cover a total of approximately 8,400 square feet. Once installed, the well will be underground. The project would not result in significant impacts or contribute to significant cumulative impacts. The proposed project would not result in impacts on a resource of critical concern. The project site is not located adjacent to a scenic highway, and the project would not damage scenic resources. No historical resources would be affected by the project, and the site is not a hazardous waste site.
