Document Description
The Sonoma County Office of Education proposes to develop a community school on a 1.94 acre site located at 1365 Industrial Avenue, Petaluma. The site is currently in private ownership and it is the intention of SCOE to purchase the property. The Petaluma Community School will serve students at the high school grade level. Students are directed to a community school for a variety of personal reasons. The proposed new facility will consist of two classrooms and one multipurpose building. The buildings will be manufactured prototype structures, readily approved by the Department of the State Architect. The facility will include approximately 12 parking spaces and an outdoor, paved basketball court. Vehicular access to the site will be from Industrial Avenue. There will be no school bus service provided to the project site, however, Golden Gate Transit and Sonoma County Transit busses stop at the intersection of Industrial and Petaluma Boulevard North. It is expected that this community school will serve approximately 20 students per classroom, for a total of 40 students. There will typically be about 2 to 3 staff members on-site at any time. The school will generally operate on a year-round basis, and virtually all programs will occur during daytime hours, although it is possible that occasional nighttime use of the facility could occur.
