Document Description
The applicant is requesting approval for the City of Eureka's Historic Preservation Commission and approval of a coastal development permit for several phases of a project involving three historic buildings as the southwest corner of 2nd and "H" Streets. The addresses of the three buildings are 622, 626 and 630-638 2nd Street. The phases include the following, which may not occur in this order: 1) Demolish the rear of the corner building (630-638 2nd Street), leaving only the front 22 feet; 2) Renovate and rehabilitate the front and rear facade of all three buildings; 3) Rehabilitate the interior of the three buildings into a combination of commercial space on the ground floor and residential space above the ground floor; and 4) Construct a private parking lot between the three buildings and the alley to the south. It is important to note that two of the three buildings included in this project were significantly damaged as a result of a fire that occurred on June 8, 2001. Due to the extensive fire damage to the rear of 622 and 626 2nd Street, the applicant, by order of the City, demolished the fire-damaged area of these buildings, leaving only the front portions of the buildings.
