Document Description
This project will replace worn and weathered lumber in the railings of the pier at William Randolph Hearst State Beach and retrofit pier for ADA access. Pier has historical significance and will probably be eligible for California Registry within two years. Therefore, structure is considered a significant cultural resource and repairs will be completed in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. All materials, with the exception of the ADA retrofit, will be replaced in kind. All ADA retrofill work will be reversible, with minimal impact on the pier's historic fabric.

Project consists of repair ad minor alterations to existing public structure, involving negligible expansion of use beyond current levels. However, because structure is considered a cultural resource, with potential historic significance, all work will be conducted in a manner consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring, and Reconstructing Historic Buildings (1995), Weeks and Grimmer.
