Document Description
This burn dump (Facility No. 49-CR-0026) is located within the City of Sonoma less than 100 feet from the City Cemetery. The site is extremely steep and a large portion of the burn ash is located in a ravine. The volume of burn ash is estimated to range from 16,000 to 18,000 cubic yards with hazardous levels of heavy metals. During the site investigation, CIWMB staff located and removed twenty-six pieces of radioactive debris discovered during the investigation. Twenty-five out of twenty-six pieces were pottery coated with naturally occurring radioactive isotopes. The debris was classified as naturally occuring radioactive material (NORM) and transferred to the Department of Health Services for proper disposal.
