Construction varies from 100 to 400 feet in width and would be located east of the existing track. The purpose is to add this passing track and siding to accommodate extensions of passenger rail service from Stockton to Sacramento. The project is part of the approved State Intercity Rail Plan and has been contained in the state rail plan for about 10 years. The beneficiaries of the proposed project are the traveling public. The entire project is located within UPRR right of way, which is maintained pursuant to federal and state regulations to accommodate railroad operations.
