Document Description
This project includes the excavation of selected sites throughout the park to help determine the size and location of the buildings and exhibits planned for subsequent construction. Following natural resource servey and any relocation work deemed necessary is completed, each building site will be scraped to a depth of approximately 8" through non-historic wind blown debris and soil. A line of small pits will be dug, by an archeologist, through the area of a potential building site to a maximum depth of 2 feet. If an indication of any building remnats is found, additional pits will be dug to determine the building corners and other pertinent features of the building footprint. If the test excavation reveals archaeological deposits, the site will be studied using standard archaeological techniqes to preserve the record of what remains in the ground consistent with DPR policy and Secretary of Interior Standards.
