Document Description
This project will result in the permanent protection of 353.3 acres of outstanding natural resources and potential public access land in coastal San Luis Obispo County. Known as the Estero Bay and Kipcho property, it serves as the Highway 1 southern gateway into the rural landscape of San Luis Obispo County's north coast and Big Sur. This purchase also offers the opportunity to develop a major link in the California Coastal Trail.
The property extends approximately three and one-half miles along the coast, and includes two streams, coastal terrace grasslands, sandy coves, wetlands and tidepools. The property provides refuge for several threatened or endangered species, including the western snowy plover, tidewater goby, red-legged frog, western pond turtle, and Chorro Creek bog thistle. The extensive scenic, recreational, and natural resources found on this property, as well as its location adjacent to the expanding community of Cayucos, make it an ideal candidate for public acquisition.
